Charles Edward McGee, Sr., 80 of Shadyside, Ohio died Sunday, September 10, 2017 at the Shadyside Care Center in Shadyside, Ohio.

He was born January 28, 1937 in Wheeling, West Virginia a son of the late Elmer and Betty O’Toole McGee.

Charles was a retired miner with Consol Coal Corporation’s #4 Mine, a Methodist by faith and served as assistant police chief in Shadyside, Ohio. He was a US Army veteran and a member of the VFW Post 626 and American Legion Post 52 both in Bellaire, Ohio.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara Thomas McGee, whom he married on July 14, 1986; his children, Betty Jean (Ronald Jones) Nicholson of Wellsburg, west Virginia, Charles E. McGee, Jr. of Sanford, Florida and Kirk (Lisa) McGee of Martins Ferry, Ohio, one brother, James McGee of Holiday, Florida and one stepson, Tim (Jackie) Hupp of Woodsfield, Ohio. Also ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Family and friends will be received at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory 3900 Central Avenue Shadyside, Ohio on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm where services will be held on Thursday at 1pm with Rev. James Hoff officiating. Interment in the Greenwood Cemetery in Wheeling, West Virginia with Full Military Honors conferred by the Belmont County Veterans Association.

VFW Post 626 will conduct services on Wednesday at 7 pm.

i worked with Chuck at the cemetery for two summers he taught me how to be laid back and roll with and to enjoy Mac and coke and was one of the best educators I had I remember him coming to my wedding and the constant argument that his old blue dodge Dakota was way better than my Chevy God rest your soul Chuck and thanks for the life lessons
