George Gunkievich

February 22, 1930 - August 4, 2015

George Gunkievich, 85, of Moundsville, WV formerly of Powhatan Point, OH died Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Wheeling Hospital. He was born February 22, 1930 in Powhatan Point a son of the late Stanley and Catherine Turwinski Gunkievich.
George was a retired press operator of the former Ormet Corporation, a member of Faith Fellowship Church, American Legion Post # 228, VFW Post # 5565 and proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Norma Jean Newsome Gunkievich in 1994; sisters, Vickie Daniels, Bertha Sline, Joan Ciszewski and Stella Bumgardner; a brother, John Gunkievich; a step-son, Harry Tucker.
Surviving are his step-children, Paul W. Tucker, Joanne (Bill) Bonar and Mary (Paul Davis) Robinson all of Moundsville, Norma Jean (Kenneth) Stillman of Palm Bay, FL; numerous step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren and his many friends in Powhatan.
Friends will be received Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory 186 Main Street Powhatan Point Ohio 43942 where services will be held Monday at 11 am with Rev. Bill Marinelli officiating. Burial will follow in Powhatan Cemetery with full Military Rites conducted by the Powhatan Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions may be made to Powhatan Volunteer Fire Department 104 Mellott Street Powhatan Point, OH 43942.
