Gladys E. Criswell, 97, of St. Clairsville, OH died Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Park Health Center. She was born March 11, 1918 in Meadow Fork, WV a daughter of the late Homer and Beatrice Adkins Burgess.
Gladys was a homemaker and a member of East Richland Evangelical Friends Church, Women’s Association of Friends Church and a US Navy Veteran of WWII. She was an avid crocheter and quilt maker with her work being shown all over the Ohio Valley.

Surviving are one daughter, Deanna (Wallace) Major of Bellaire, OH; three grandsons, Matthew Wayne Major of Bellaire, Russell Lee (Michelle) Major of Wheeling, WV and Wallace Edward Major of St. Clairsville; a great-granddaughter, Allison; a brother, Paul O. (Marla) Burgess of Sikeston, MO; a special cousin, Dr. Terri Riddiford; a special niece, Gloria Brinkmeier; a special nephew, Karl Resnik; several other nieces and nephews and Deanna’s dear friend, Elaine Patt.
Friends will be received Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Beck-Altmeyer Funeral Home 204 West Main Street St. Clairsville where services will be held Friday at 11 am with Rev. Jerry Wenger officiating. Entombment will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Pleasant Grove, OH.
Memorial contributions may be made to East Richland Friends Christian School.
