JoAnn Pauline Pilney Zavacky, 82, of St. Clairsville, OH went to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 10, 2018. She died at her home in the arms of her beloved grandson, L.J..

She was born June 30, 1935 in Dillonvale, OH a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Corona Pilney.

Foremost, she was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to cook and bake for her family. She also loved her pets, particularly the numerous stray cats who frequented her porch for food and refuge. She enjoyed watching birds, flower gardening, reading, suduko puzzles and watching Mother Angelica re-runs and cooking shows.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and a former member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church where she volunteered. JoAnn worked as a bookkeeper at Dillonvale Co-op before marrying. Later in life she worked in the drapery and bedding department at Elder Beerman (formerly Stone & Thomas) retiring after 25 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Lewis J. Zavacky, Sr.; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Blakley Zavacky.

Surviving are a son, Lewis Zavacky, Jr. of St. Clairsville; a daughter, Cynthia (Don) Rutan of Powell, OH; two grandsons, L.J. (Natasha) Zavacky, III, and Matthew Rutan; a granddaughter, Rachel Rutan; a brother, Donald (Louise) Pilney of Erie, PA; an aunt, Helen Pilney Hetki (John) of Parma, OH; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Beck-Altmeyer Funeral Home & Crematory 204 West Main Street St. Clairsville, OH 43950 with a Vigil Service at 6 pm.

Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 12 pm at St. Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Ed Maxfield as celebrant. Entombment in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH.

Sincere sympathy to all of JoAnn’s family. I knew her mom and dad from Dillonvale and worked with Lew at Holly Memorial and valued JoAnn’s friendship. May your memories bring you comfort in the days ahead.
