Mary Lee Mahan, 85, of St. Clairsville, OH passed away July 15, 2015 at Forest Hill Retirement Community in St. Clairsville. She was born July 29, 1929 in Follansbee, WV a daughter of the late Frances Fowler Mahan and Herman Lee Mahan.
Mary Lee was graduated from Stephens College and Northwestern University and then lived in New York City working as a secretary at a variety of places including Vogue magazine. In the mid 1970’s she returned to the Ohio Valley making St. Clairsville her home until her death. She worked at Oglebay Park Mansion and volunteered at the Ohio Valley Hospital gift shop. She was an avid reader with a special fondness for historical biographies and greatly enjoyed classical music.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. John H. Mahan.
Surviving are a nephew, Lee Mahan of St. Clairsville; two nieces, Nancy Mahan-Gjording of Seattle, WA; and Sarah Mahan-Hays of St. Clairsville as well as three great nephews.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 10 am until time of funeral service at 11 am at Thoburn United Methodist Church, St. Clairsville with Rev. Ken Gifford officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Follansbee, WV.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Clairsville Public Library.
