Pauline (Manuilow) Matoszkia “Nan”, at the age of 96, very peacefully and quietly left this earth at the Shadyside Care Center on Saturday, May 27, 2017, to reunite with her husband, Bill, who has been waiting for her since 1979.

Prior to March of this year, she had been living with her youngest son, Jim, and his wife, Kathy, in Grove City, Ohio, who had been caring for her during her years of need.

Pauline was the daughter of the late Andy and Harpina (Stephanovich) Manuilow who immigrated to America from Kiev, Russia. From Ellis Island, they made their way to McKeesrock, PA, to Moundsville, WV; and finally to Dilles Bottom, OH, where they lived on a riverboat on the Ohio River for many years.

Pauline lived her entire life in Dilles Bottom and may have been the oldest survivor.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Pauline was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Edward V. Miller; her sister Mary; and her brothers Pete, Andy and Alexander.

Surviving are her four children: Joseph W. (Sherril) Matoszkia of Shadyside, OH; Patricia J. Miller of Columbus, OH; Brenda J. (Alan) Duvall of Wheeling, WV; and James V. (Kathy) Matoszkia of Grove City, OH; five grand-children; 12 great-grand children; her brother John Manuilow of Brooklyn, CT; her sister-in-law, Garda Manuilow of Ft. Wayne, IN and many nieces and nephews.

During her lifetime, Pauline enjoyed many things. She was a coal miner’s wife; she gardened, canned and was an excellent cook. She worked at the Dilles Bottom Restaurant and the Shadyside Dairy Queen.

For many years she belonged to a bunco club and later she enjoyed playing bingo. But her favorite past-time was being outdoors. She loved cutting her own grass and continued to cut until she reached the age of 90.

Another favorite of hers was sitting on her porch swings. She lived a long and happy life and she will be missed and remain in our hearts forever.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 from 3pm until 8 pm at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory 3900 Central Ave. Shadyside, Ohio, 43947 with further visitation on Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 9:30 am until time of service at 10:30 am.

The Reverend Randy Weaver will officiate.

Internment will follow at the Powhatan Cemetery in Powhatan Point, Ohio.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Dementia Society of America at P.O. Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901 or the Shadyside Care Center at 60583 State Route 7, Shadyside, OH 43947 or the Bishop Hodges Wheeling Continuous Care Center at 600 Medical Park, Wheeling, WV 26003 or by going to “TMCFunding.com”

I have known Pauline “Nan” since I was 16 years old. First as my manager at the Shadyside Dairy Queen throughout my high school years, then as the mother of my life partner, her son Jim, and finally as my mother-in-law. She was a part of my life for the past 43 years and has left an impression that will forever hold a special place in my heart. Nan was one of the hardest working people I have ever met. Together, she and her husband Bill “Pap” were a dynamic team who raised 4 wonderful children and were an example to us all of what hard work and perseverance could produce. Nan was very proud of her family, not just her sons and daughters, but of her parents and siblings as well. She often spoke to me about how much she wished her parents had lived long enough so she could have helped her financially and helped them have a better life. Pauline was grateful for the blessings in her life, for the love of her life, Bill, her children and grandchildren. I am grateful for the blessing both she and “Pap” brought to my life and will cherish memories of them for the rest of my life. Rest in peace Nan and Pap now that you are together again. You will be missed by all who loved you and we will always try to make you proud. With love,

To the Family of Pauline Matoszkia . Bill and I would like to express our sympathy to all of you, Pauline was a great person and also a great employee too. She had to be one of the best and dependable employee that we had. When she came to work at 10:00a.m. she already had cut her grass (in her bare feet) mopped her floors and ran her sweeper and started her dinner.. She could work rings around all the other girls including me. When she would come to work her shoes were polished an shinned and her dress was sparkling clean. Back then we all wore white uniform dresses. Also when she left work at 5 p.m. her shoes were still white and shinny and she didn’t even have a dirty spot on her uniform. She always brought her own knife to cut lettuce.. No one could cut lettuce like Pauline. She was a joy to work with. Bill and I think all of you Children should be thankful you had a great Mother and she will be missed.
God Bless all of you

What can I say about someone as special as Pauline. I truly loved her. I have known her for over 60 years.. Her family treated mine more like family than friends. We have a friendship that will live on forever. You know she and Bill were good people by looking at their children! I am sure they were always proud of them. So to the children I say how sorry I am for their loss. She will live on in our hearts through all of our memories of this one special woman. My love to you all
