Peter Donathan, 83, of St. Clairsville, OH, died Friday, July 17, 2015 at Wheeling Hospital.  He was born October 23, 1931 in Huntington, WV, a son of the late John Ison and Tennie Pemberton Donathan.

Peter graduated from Marshall College, Huntington, WV, with a degree in Music. He served in the US Air Force and Army Reserves. He was the band director at St. Clairsville High School for several years. He then went to Linsly Military Institute serving as director of the drum and bugle corps. During this time, his drum and bugle corps represented the state of WV in Washington, D.C. in 1977 for the inauguration of President Jimmy Carter. He also served as the director of the Linsly Extravaganza for many years. He directed the St. Clairsville Saints Club Minstrel for more than 20 years. After leaving Linsly, he attended the Culinary Arts School in Pittsburgh. After graduating, he worked as a chef at Walt Disney World’s Grand Floridian Beach Resort.  He served as a Richland Township Trustee, served as past president of the St. Clairsville Lions Club and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, St. Clairsville. He was a talented man.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Angela Moore Donathan in 1981; a daughter, Robin Ratcliffe; a daughter-in-law, Jackie Riesbeck Donathan; four brothers, Jack, Harry, Thomas Ferguson and John Donathan, Jr.; a sister, Ernestine Marshall.

He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Karen McCue Donathan; sons Thomas (Susan) Donathan of Wheeling, WV, David (Karen) Donathan of Charleston, WV., Mark Donathan of St. Clairsville; six grandchildren: Angela McVeigh, Eric, Kayla, Emily, Luke and Aidan Donathan; three great-grandchildren: Jay, Weston and Gracie McVeigh; a brother, Dr. D. Michael Donathan of Wise, VA; a sister-in-law, Mary Donathan of Union, WV and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Monday from 2-8pm and again on Tuesday from 1-3pm until the time of service at 3pm at Beck-Altmeyer Funeral Home & Crematory, 204 West Main Street, St. Clairsville, OH with Rev. Homer Harden officiating. Burial follows in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Schiffler Cancer Center at Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, WV.

Karen, you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Pete was such a great influence on the both of us. Not only a great coach and mentor for Mike while he was at Linsly but just a wonderful person to be around. I look back at so many memories we shared at Linsly, just a great man. He will be missed by so many.

Band director at St. Clairsville , Ohio. What a kind, respectful and caring gentle man. Loved and cared about all his students . Will never forget him. I’ll be seeing you again in heaven Mr. D.
