William “Bill” James Woods, 70 of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Sunday, January 14, 2018 in Liza’s Place in Wheeling, West Virginia. He was surrounded by loving family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.

He is preceded by his beloved wife, Rita Marie (Sabinski) Woods, his parents Harry and Olive (Wilkins) Woods, his sister Martha Lee Tally and his mother and father-in-law Ethel Mae (Ehasz) and John Sabinski.

He was proud to have served in The United States Marine Corps as a Radio-Telegraph operator, was very active in Amateur Radio and was Vice-President of the Eastern Ohio Amateur Wireless Association until his death. He retired fron Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel where he worked as an electronic technician. He previously worked for Boury, Inc and Montgomery Ward as an electronics repairman.

He was a member of the American Legion. He was a skilled marksman and loved collecting and shooting firearms, a sport he competed in for many years. He also enjoyed building and flying model airplanes. After their boys finally moved out of the house, he and Rita, spent many vacations traveling the coasts and the Great Lakes shorelines visiting lighthouses and enjoying life together.

He is sadly missed by his three sons, William “Bill” (Dawn) James, II of Groveport, Ohio, Sean Michael (Kyle Marie) of Green, Ohio and Robert “Bob”Martin (Jennifer) of Belmont, Ohio, his grandchildren, Brittney, Katelin, Olivia, Kenny, Nathan, Garret and Otis, his brother-in-law, Jeff (Michelle) Sabinski and countless friends and family.

Family and friends will be received at the Beck-Altmeyer Funeral Home & Crematory 204 West Main Street St. Clairsville, Ohio on Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm and at the First Presbyterian Church in St. Clairsville, Ohio on Thursday from 10 am until time of services at 11 am with Rev. Homer Harden officiating. Interment in the Weeks Cemetery in Bridgeport, Ohio.

Full Military Honors will be conferred by the Belmont County Veterans Association prior to services at 10:45 am

I am so sorry that it has taken me so long to write this about your dad. We tried to find the obituary in the Wheeling Newspaper when a nurses aid said your dad’s obit was in St C. I feel a deep honor that I got to know your Dad in the short time your Dad and I were were able to talk . Bill Jr, James and Sean, God Bless Each of you. Fred Gersting
