Alfred J. “Al” DeFranco, 71, died Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at his home in Charleston, WV. He was born August 10, 1949 in Wheeling, WV a son of the late Alfred A. DeFranco and Edith Maruca DeFranco.
Alfred was a graduate of Shadyside Highschool and Ohio University. He worked as a Supervisor in the West Virginia State Tax Department before his retirement in 2015. He was a veteran of the US Airforce. He also loved the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Surviving are his sister, Diane (Bill) Kern, of Akron, OH, niece, Jennifer (Eric) Cooper and great niece, Lily Diane Cooper all of New Franklin, OH
Family and friends will be received at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory 3900 Central Avenue Shadyside, OH 43947 on Sunday, November 15, from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm. Services will be held Monday, November 16 at 11AM at the funeral home with Father Heusel officiating. Interment will follow at Mt Calvary Cemetery in Wheeling, WV.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and facial coverings will be required during visitation and service.

Al was a college roommate at Ohio University during our junior and senior years. He always had a smile and great sense of humor. We enjoyed Homecoming events and weekend trips “uptown” in Athens. He was fun to be around. My memories of you and our times together will live on. Rest In Peace.
