Barbara Jean Applegarth, 82, Barton, OH died on December 28, 2015 in Wheeling.

She was born on October 10, 1933 in Barton, OH a daughter of Julius (Jess) Betler and Leota (Beck) Betler, Lesnick both deceased.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her loving husband, Smith B. Applegarth, March 13, 2008, and her Aunt Elizabeth M. Betler, who raised her. Surviving are her children, Kathy M. (Dale) (Yoker) Rothert, John Wm. (Tina) Yoker, my grandson, Michael Wm. Yoker. James E. Applegarth, and Donald (Julie) Applegarth, my grandson, Hunter Matthew Applegarth. Barbara Jean was a stay at home mom. A sister, Judith Stokes, her son, Vince and daughter, Susan (Brian) Morris and their daughter, Regan Grace Morris, of Michigan.

Barbara Jean was a graduate, class 1951, of St. John Central High School, Bellaire, OH. She was a member of Saint Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Colerain, OH. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s Club, the Presentation Deanery and the Steubenville Diocesan Council of the Catholic Woman. She was Vice-President and President of the CWC, Vice-President, President and Treasurer of Presentation Deanery. Secretary, Treasurer, Vice-President and President of the DCCW. She was past President of all the above. Barbara Jean was also a recipient of the Papal Medal, Pro Ecclesia Et Pontifice, from the 3rd Bishop of Steubenville, Emeritus Gilbert I Sheldon. Barbara Jean was a choir member, lector and former Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion.

There will be no visitation. Family and friends are invited to a memorial mass at St. Frances Cabrini, Colerain. Fr. Timothy McGuire will officiate the mass.

The funeral mass will be on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. Arrangements by Beck Altmeyer Funeral Home & Crematory, St. Clairsville, OH.
