Bertha Hanson, 91 of Shadyside, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on February 1, 2020, at Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Glen Dale, WV. with her family by her side.

She was born December 15, 1928 a daughter of the late Rudy Miller and Angeline (Brunelli) Miller in Dilles Bottom, Ohio.

Bertha was a retired hospitality aide at Anwar Eye Center and Mound View Health Center in Moundsville, WV.

She was a member of the Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Church, a proud graduate of Bellaire High School, and a US Army veteran.

Generous with her time and anything she had, Bertha was a true Christian, always trying to live out her faith by helping others, her family, friends or anyone in need.

Always joyful, she loved people and never met a stranger.

She loved to dance and did so up into her eighties.

Her hobby was sending cards, sending out hundreds over the years to bring happiness to others.

Bertha always offered encouragement to others in the form of either a kind word, a big smile, some laughter, prayers offered, or a hug.

Her greatest love and enjoyment was her family especially her great-grandchildren.

Words could never adequately express how unselfish and loving a wife, mother and grandmother she was.

She will continue to walk with her family each day and live in their hearts forever.

Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, her son Louie Hanson and a sister Marian DeGenova.

She is survived by her husband Art Hanson Sr. whom she married on Feburary 25, 1964, spending nearly 56 years together.

In addition she is survived by her children, Mary (Phil) Richardson of Shadyside, Ohio, and Arthur “Little Art” (Theresa) Hanson Jr. of Bellaire, Ohio along with four grandchildren Benjamin Hanson, Brittany (Anson) Core, Ryan Richardson, and Sean Hanson and five great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will be received at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes – 3900 Central Ave, Shadyside, Ohio 43947 on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 from 4 pm until time of service at 6 pm with Rev Dennis Hancock officiating.

Full military honors will be conducted at 6:45 by the Belmont County Veterans Association.

Burial will be held in Powhatan Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Church SHS Lunch Program, 3838 Lincoln Ave, Shadyside, Ohio 43947 or online at “TMCFunding.com”.

Art, Mary, Artie, and family. I am so sorry for your loss. Bertha was a beautiful Christian woman. I feel like a lost a little of my childhood now that she’s gone. She was the mother of our neighborhood. We all loved her and knew she loved us. She always signed my birthday cards “our little girl”. She always put her faith in Christ , even during the really hard times. She was such an example of what a Christian mother, wife, daughter, and friend should be. We will miss her too. You will all be in our hearts and prayers. John and Nancy Henthorn

Sending condolences to the family of Bertha. I met Bertha at Moundview nursing home when my parents were there and she was such a sweet and caring lady. She always had a smile on her face and treated everyone there like they were family. She brought a smile to everyone. Thank you Bertha for your service to our country and for being such a dedicated person to bring happiness to everyone she met.
