Gerald D. “Jerry” Marling, 76 of Bellaire, Ohio died Sunday, July 2, 2017 at the Acuity of Belmont Hospital in Bellaire, Ohio.
He was born July 20, 1940 in Shadyside, Ohio a son of the late Albert R. and Edith James Hixenbaugh Marling.
Jerry was a retired machinist and coal miner with the former North American Coal Corporation’s Number 3 Mine at Dilles Bottom, Ohio and co-owner of the Forest Hill Community Center Hall in Bellaire, Ohio. He graduated from DeVry Technical College in Chicago, Illinois, was a member of the American Legion Post 521 in Shadyside, Ohio, UMWA and the former Bridgeport Eagles, also a Methodist by faith and a US Army veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Emma L and Beth Ann Marling, three brothers, William, Russell and Robert Marling, infant great granddaughter, Alana Reigh Doty and brother-in-law, Joe Long.
Surviving are his wife, Sally Long Marling, whom he married on September 30, 1964, three children, Jerry (Shelly) Marling of Fairview, Ohio, Kelly (Joe) Anastasia of Bellaire, Ohio and Lisa Marling (Rik Nolan) of Byesville, Ohio; three sisters, F. Georgene (Frank) Carpino of Shadyside, Ohio, Karen (Richard) Stack and Pamela (Kent) Moore both of Jacobsburg, Ohio; two brothers, Edward (Sandy) Marling of Bellaire, Ohio and Richard (Deborah) Marling of Oklahoma; one brother-in-law, Mike Kelly of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and three sisters-in-law, Patty Hendershot of Indiana, Mary(Amiel) Helle of Delaware, Ohio and Colleen Burgess of St. Clairsville, Ohio. Also four grandchildren, Brittney, Danielle, Austin and Collin.
Family and friends will be received at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory 3900 Central Avenue Shadyside, Ohio on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm where services will be held on Friday at 1 pm with the Reverend Randy Weaver officiating. Interment in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Bellaire, Ohio.
The Belmont County Council of the American Legion will confer Full Military Honors on Thursday at 7pm in the funeral home.
