Leonard James “Jim” McVey of Powhatan Point, Ohio died March 22, 2021 in his home. He was born March 2, 1951 to the late Leonard and Olga (Susac) McVey.

Jim was retired from the North American Coal Corp and the Ormet Corp., and was a member of the American Legion Post 228 and VFW Post 5565.

He is survived by his two daughters, Heather (Matt) Potts and Ashley (Jason) McCloud, and their Mother, Pam McVey, a sister, Oglalynn Swihart, two brothers, Mark (Cork) McVey, and Mike (Kathy) McVey, six grandchildren, Taylor Potts, Dylan Potts, Torey Potts Devyn Potts, Karsyn McVey, Colton McCloud and one great grandson, Quincy Potts.

Jim was an outstanding athlete from Powhatan High School and an avid sports fan, especially basketball. The town will miss him.

A memorial service will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Home and Crematory 186 Main Street, Powhatan Point, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to Powhatan Legion Post 228 or by going to TMCFunding.com

It breaks our hearts to know that this good man is gone, He and Steve worked together for many years and we spent wonderful times together, He helped us to move into our home 50 years ago. Our deepest condolences

So sorry Ashley and Heather, Jim was one a kind. I have lots of found memories of him while growing up in Powhatan. I’m sure Jim and Jan are at the Captains Lounge in the sky.

What a tough one on the heart. Jim was a family staple growing up (as well as Pam and the girls). You can sit here and hear his deep laugh as you think of him, and what a contagious laugh it was. We love you Jim and send our condolences to the whole family.
