Louis Hartmann Nikolaus,88, was born on October 6, 1930, in Wheeling WV to the late George Wesley and Hilda Edna (Hartmann) Nikolaus. Lou passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on October 16, 2018.

Lou graduated from Wheeling High School in 1948. Post graduation, Lou served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force during the Korean War era.

Upon discharge from the Air Force, Lou worked at Picoma Industries until he retired in 1984.

Lou and his family were active members of Christ The King Lutheran Church for many years.

Pappy, as he was known by his family, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. Nothing brought him greater joy than gardening, fishing, playing ball and spending time with his grandchildren in their younger years.

He enjoyed his later years with his loving and devoted caregivers, Annie Kemp, Mary Ellen, and Dave Schramm, Sharon and Terry Cruise, Marcy Langford, Julie Coe. He loved them all!

Lou was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, George, John, and Mary Jo. Also preceding him was his wife of 57 years, Suzanne ( Nagler) Nikolaus.

Lou and Sue are survived by their children, Becky (Rob) Campbell of Louisville, KY, Bobby (Madeline) Nikolaus of Hilliard, OH, Judy (Barry) Peters of Quaker City, OH and Bill (Amber) Nikolaus of Grove City, OH, grandchildren, Jeremy (Ashley) Sowers, Joshua (Nicky) Sowers, Alivia, Patrick, Rebecca, and Stephen Nikolaus, great-granddaughters, Brooklyn, Elizabeth,Southern, and Riley Sowers, 3 sisters-in-law, Mary (Bill) Langford, Johanna Vinci, Judy Brown and a brother-in-law, Adolph (Mary) Nagler, many nieces and nephews and special friends, Joyce and Chuck Snider.

Friends will be received Sunday from 2 pm – 6 pm at the Beck-Altmeyer Funeral Home and Crematory, 204 West Main Street, St. Clairsville, OH.

Family and friends are invited to attend Lou’s funeral service Monday, October 22, 2018, at Christ The King Lutheran Church, St. Clairsville, OH with a visitation in church, from 10 am until time of funeral service at 11 am with Pastor Deborah Gable officiating.

Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, St.Clairsville, Ohio.

Louie’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to his care family; Annie Kemp, we thank you for loving and caring for Lou like your own. Mary Ellen, your dedication and love were immeasurable. Marcy, you are a true blessing to us all. Joyce, there are no words for what Louie felt for you.

We thank Senior Services of Belmont County, Advanced Health Care and the staff at Mill Run Care Center, Hilliard, OH, and everyone who aided in his care.

Lou, may you find comfort and eternal happiness with Suzanne as you watch down on your family. May you find peace knowing you loved and were loved.

May God bless you, In the name of The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.
